If you are searching for a used containers, let Midwest Storage Containers help you with your decision and find the perfect container for you.
Deciding On Your Container Type
If you know that you are going with a used container, the second question you must ask yourself is whether or not you need it to be an ocean cargo container vs. a domestic shipping container. Ocean cargo containers are mainly bought because they can be shipped overseas, but it does not mean that people don’t use them domestically as well. Ocean cargo containers are made of COR-TEN steel. This is the highest quality of steel on the market and is built to last even in the most ferocious seas. Domestic shipping containers are made up of either a strong steel or lasting aluminum. They remain within the U.S and while not seaworthy, they are made to last and handle even the strongest domestic storms.
Deciding On Your Container Grade
So once you know which type of container you need, you can then focus on the grade that you desire. Obviously, for the absolute top of the line, you can’t beat buying a container brand new. These containers have only been shipped from the manufacturer to our facility and then sold pretty quickly off of our lot. The next grade is our cargo-worthy grade. This means that the container is not brand new but is certified to do all things that an ocean cargo container is supposed to do. It is wind and watertight and can handle being shipped overseas. Our next grade is the wind and watertight container. This container is likely just like the cargo-worthy grade, as it can typically handle an overseas trip, but a qualified surveyor has not inspected it to be absolutely sure. Our last grade is “as is.” This container likely has been found to have a leak or a bit of damage. These containers still have quite a bit of life in them and can still be utilized for a multitude of things, including shipping across the U.S.
